College sports recruiting

This first thing you need to know about getting recruited is this. " Don't make the mistake of sitting around and waiting for the college coach to contact you; if your not one of the top high school athletes then you have to do it yourself. this means preparing an athletic profile and getting it into the hands of the coaches.

The NCAA, (National Collegiate Athletic Association), has calculated that the opportunity to be recruited and compete in sports at the collegiate level is not easy. EG: according to the NCAA, high school men's basketball has about 500,000 players; 157,000 of them are seniors.

There are only about 4500 college freshman positions on offer each year. This means that only three percent of high school senior basketball players will get to play NCAA college basketball. You need to also remember that there are other alternatives and the figures are not as bad as they look. You need to take into account the fact that  a large percentage of high school graduating seniors will not even go to college and that athletic scholarships are also available at  NAIA, NCCAA, NJCAA schools as well.

Just about all high school athletes want to play their sport at college level and most dream about getting that elusive FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP. The really sad thing is that most wont even apply. There are lots of opportunities available. Remember that a 50% sports scholarship at a NAIA school is better than no scholarship at all and you get to play your sport as well as earn a degree.
