The Springfield
Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that the New
England Junior Coyotes will become the New England Junior Falcons following
a new sponsorship agreement.
Besides the change in moniker, each of the
junior hockey organization’s affiliated teams will wear jerseys that
replicate those of the Falcons.
“I have a great deal of respect for (Jr. Falcons general
manager and coach) Gary Dineen and the work he has done in building his
program to the point where it is internationally recognized for not only
producing top hockey talent, but more importantly, for attracting
scholarship dollars for his players to attend high-caliber colleges and
universities,” said Springfield Falcons president and general manager Bruce
Landon. “This agreement helps solidify our support of youth hockey in the
Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut area at all levels. We will
also continue our support of the Greater Springfield Youth Hockey League and
the Annual Western Massachusetts Division III High School Hockey Finals.”
The Junior Falcons will play at the Olympia Ice Arena in West Springfield
this season after signing a three-year agreement with the rink earlier this
summer. The developmental and girls teams play at the Enfield Twin Rinks.
The Falcon Junior Team will continue to play in the Eastern
Junior Hockey League (EJHL), one of the premier leagues in the
United States for placing players into colleges as scholarship
student/athletes. The organization also skates a Junior-Minor team
in the Eastern Minor Junior Hockey League (EMJHL), a Midget Minor
team, Bantam Major and Minor teams, Pee Wee Major and Minor teams,
Squirt Major and Minor teams, as well as Girls Under 16, Under 14 A,
Under 14 B, and Under 12 teams.
The organization has seen over 300 players receive college scholarships.
Its alumni include Bill Guerin of the Dallas Stars, Chris Clark of the
Calgary Flames, Mike Komisarek and Ron Hainsey of the Montreal Canadiens,
Dan Cavanaugh of the Houston Aeros (AHL), and Doug Janik of the Rochester
Americans (AHL).
