Chattanooga state community  COLLEGE

The college was founded in September 1965 and was located on
Chestnut and Fourth Streets, the School was originally known as Chattanooga State Technical Institute, a 2 year, co-educational, college level institution. It was the state’s first technical college, and Southeast Tennessee’s first public institution of higher education.

In 1967, the College was relocated to its present location; since then, it has grown into a multi-million dollar complex.   Chattanooga State Technical Institute’s aim was to prepare students with marketable technical skills that would bridge the gap between the craftsman and the engineer.

In 1973, Chattanooga State Technical Institute was renamed to the Chattanooga State Technical Community College.

Chattanooga State’s mission expanded to include vocational education on July 1, 1981, when the State Area Vocational-Technical School joined with with the school. This merger was made permanent by the Tennessee legislature effective July 1, 1983.

Today, Chattanooga State Technical Community College continues to emphasize 2 year technical educational programs and the expanded dimension of the comprehensive junior college.

It is the philosophy of the Chattanooga State Athletic Department to provide programs and leadership that will enhance the physical, intellectual, social and moral development of each student athlete.  It is recognized that a disciplined approach to athletic, academic and personal endeavors is paramount to the ability of the student- athlete to achieve success.

Chattanooga State provides Division I competition in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and fast pitch softball and play on very nice facilities located on the campus.
