clarendon COLLEGE
Clarendon College was founded in 1898 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and is the oldest institution of higher education in the Texas Panhandle. The School was successfully administrated by the church until 1927.
The Clarendon Independent School Board purchased the school property and Clarendon College was re-established in 1927 as a non-sectarian community college. The Institution was recognized by the Texas Education Agency and the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities in 1927. The College separated from the school district and was re-located to its present location in 1968. Clarendon Community College now operates from a picturesque Eighty two acre site on the western edge of Clarendon. 8 counties comprise the College's service area. It is maintained, in part, by property taxes in the Clarendon College District (Donley County). The School is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and schools and is one of Fifty state-supported junior colleges in the Texas system |
The Clarendon College Athletic Department offers 4 women's programs (basketball, softball, volleyball, rodeo), 3 men's programs (baseball, basketball, rodeo), along with co-ed cheerleading, meats judging, equine judging and livestock judging programs. the School believes that activities such as intercollegiate athletics teach young women and men valuable lessons and instill lifelong traits that help them become successful citizens. Athletic scholarships are available in all of these programs.
The College is a member institution of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference which consists of Ten Texas and New Mexico community colleges and is well known throughout the USA as one of the top community college conferences. The Clarendon College Rodeo team competes in the Southwest Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
