clark state community  COLLEGE

Clark State Community College was founded in 1962 and was then called the Springfield and Clark County Technical Education Program.  The program was established to meet the post-secondary and technical education needs of Springfield and the surrounding area.

In 1966 the school was re-names as the Clark County Technical Institute  and was chartered by the Ohio Board of Regents as Ohio's 1st technical college. In 1972, 10 years after its formation, the Institute had over One thousand students and officially became Clark Technical College. New educational programs in agriculture, engineering technologies, health, business, public services and general studies were developed in response to the service area's changing economic and educational needs.

In the 1970s the School determined that programs which could be transferred to 4 year colleges should be included as a secondary focus. The College included many new courses in the humanities and the social sciences. By 1985 Clark had developed one of the broadest general education programs of any technical college in Ohio.

On July 1, 1988, the Ohio Board of Regents approved a further name change from Clark Technical College to Clark State Community College. Clark State has now included Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees (university parallel programs) to the nearly thirty technical associate degrees and certificates that it had been previously offering.

Clark State's commitment to the athletic program provides students with opportunities to compete against other colleges at the varsity level in women's  softball, volleyball and basketball and men's baseball and basketball.

The College competes in Region XII of the National Junior College Athletic Association and regularly plays teams from Michigan and Ohio. Clark State is also a member of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference
