COASTAL GEORGIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Coastal Georgia Community College was founded in 1961 as Brunswick college by the Regents of the University System of Georgia after the citizens of Glynn and Brunswick Counties approved a one-million dollar bond issue for purchase of land and the construction of buildings.

Construction of the physical plant began in 1963 and the buildings were ready to be occupied in Sept. 1964. In 1987 the provision of postsecondary adult education was given to a new Georgia government agency, the Department of Technical and Adult Education.

The Regents authorized the Camden Residence Center to serve the needs of Camden County residents in December 1992 and school classes were started in the former Kingsland Elementary School in January 1993.

After recommendations from the consultants retained by the Board of Regents to review the college's missions and in light of Brunswick College's evident geographic service region and commitment to a comprehensive mission of vocational educational programs, transfer programs, lifelong learning, and community service, the Board of Regents adopted the name of Coastal Georgia Community College for Brunswick College in July of 1996. In 2001, adult literacy programs to serve McIntosh, Glynn and Camden counties were added to the curriculum of Coastal Georgia Junior College by the Department of Technical and Adult Education.
