Columbia State Community College, a Tennessee Board of Regents school in southern middle Tennessee, the college is dedicated to providing access to collegiate education, promoting lifelong learning and supporting community development.

 

Columbia State, the 1st of Tennessee's community colleges, was founded in 1966. The school was temporarily housed in facilities throughout the city of Columbia until the current campus was occupied. On March 15, 1967, Lady Bird and Lyndon B. Johnson dedicated the Columbia campus.

Today, the school has over ten Thousand students each year in credit and continuing education courses and awards more than ten million dollars in financial aid. 5 academic divisions offer students over fifty programs of study and the opportunity to earn associate of arts, a certificate,  associate of science or associate of applied science degree. As well as the the Columbia campus, the college has locations in Marshall, Lawrence, Wayne and Williamson counties

Columbia state community College is a member institution of the national junior college athletic association Region VII and the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association and offers intercollegiate competition in Men's and women's Basketball, Baseball and softball.

During the competition itself women increase their testosterone production by Forty-nine percent while in males it increases on average Fifteen percent. The rise in testosterone that accompanies athletic competition is believed to make the athlete more willing to take risks, improves psychomotor function, and coordination, and improves cognitive performance qualities that are very important in winning.

Volleyball is a favorite sport played by over 800 million participants world-wide, according to the International Volleyball Federation.  In the United States alone, there were more than 172,000 volleyball-related injuries that were treated in hospitals, doctors’ offices, clinics, ambulatory surgery centers and hospital emergency rooms in 2001, according to the U.S. Consumer Safety Product Commission.

Coffeyville Community College participates in several athletic activities as a member institution of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association.
