community college of allegheny county

CC Allegheny opened it's doors in September 1966, under the leadership of President Kermit C. Morrissey, assisted by 2 campus presidents and a college dean of administration. Initial enrollment was 1,516 students.

There were two campuses at this time – a suburban location at Boyce Campus in Monroeville and the urban site on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

South Campus was established in 1967, with evening classes 1st being held at West Mifflin-South High School. The next year, the campus was moved to McKeesport until the present day complex was completed in West Mifflin in 1973.

North Campus – 1st housed in leased facilities in 1972 and moved to its permanent location in McCandless in 1990 – was developed to meet the needs of northern Allegheny County residents.

To accommodate the college’s rapid growth, numerous expansions and changes occurred at the campuses. 9 college centers were created as satellite centers for the 4 main college campuses. The Turtle Creek and Braddock centers were combined in 2003 as the Braddock Hills center.

In 2001, the school opened a center in Washington, Pennsylvania to provide convenient access to junior college classes for the residents of that county. also, CC Allegheny has offered classes throughout the years at 100's of school district, community, and workplace settings.

the Institution's academic programs lead to an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or an Associate of Applied Science degree, and/or certificate. The Community College of Allegheny County trains students for employment, transfer to 4 year school's, or both. The college also offers noncredit continuing education programs to enrich individuals’ personal and professional lives.
