College of Lake County is a comprehensive junior college offering a wide range of academic programs aimed at meeting students' educational needs at different stages of their lives.

 

Major program areas at the school include credit programs to prepare students for transfer to a four year college or career entry, GED and adult basic education, non-credit offerings for personal or career development, and contract training and specialized services for businesses.

Educational programs emphasize academic excellence and concern with the individual student's aims. Each semester the institution serves nearly sixteen thousand credit students, of which more than eighty percent are enrolled in transfer or career preparation programs.

college of Lake County is situated in the far northeastern suburbs of Chicago, the school district has a population of almost 650,000 residents, living in more than fifty demographically diverse communities.

Intercollegiate athletics and intramural sports are an important part of student life at the College of Lake County. College teams compete in thirteen intercollegiate sports. Women's sports include soccer, softball, basketball, cross-country, tennis and volleyball. Men's sports include golf, soccer, baseball, basketball, cross-country, tennis and wrestling. The school is a member of the Skyway Community College Athletic Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The College of Lake County is renowned for its integrity and excellence in athletics.

Johnson has represented USA Hockey as a player in 13 international tournaments, including the U.S. National Team at the 1998 IIHF (A-Pool) World Championship Qualification Tournament in Austria. Most notably, he led the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team's gold medal-winning effort with 11 points, including two goals in the "Miracle-On-Ice" against the Soviet Union and an assist on the game-winning goal against Finland in the final contest.
