New Mexico Junior College first opened its doors to students in the fall of 1966. Since then it has grown to be one of the finest community colleges in the "Land of Enchantment" with a current enrollment of 3,239.

The college campus is contained on 243 acres with over 331,400 gross square feet of building space, worth an estimated $37.3 million.

NMJC offers associate degrees in applied science, science and arts; in addition, several certificate programs in vocational trade areas. There are over 640 courses of study offered each year through NMJC's two instructional sectors: Business and Technology and Arts and Sciences.

The college district within Lea County supports NMJC by a tax levy which provides area students with excellent college instruction and facilities at the most affordable tuition rate in New Mexico. A Lea County in-district student carrying a full academic credit load pays $156 in tuition; and, and out-of-district student pays $360 a semester. The mission of New Mexico Junior College is to provide varied, lifelong learning experiences, at an affordable price.

The following sports are offered at New Mexico Junior college: Baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Golf, Rodeo, Track and field, and Cross Country.
