This weeks featured school. Oxford College Of Emory University

Emory is unique among research universities in that it offers two academically equivalent but environmentally distinct options for entering students. 1 option is Oxford College, a small living, learning community, located 38 miles east of Atlanta on the site of the original Emory campus founded by the Methodist Church in Oxford, Georgia. Students choose to attend Oxford because of its emphasis on personal interaction with professors, teaching, community setting, leadership opportunities, and relationship with Emory University. Most Oxford College graduates continue on automatically to the Atlanta campus to complete their baccalaureate degrees.

Oxford College offers its students distinctive advantages - all of which are a product of its unique historical situation. Oxford students benefit from a campus environment with a clear mission; it concentrates on the social, intellectual, and developmental needs of 1st and 2nd year students.

Oxford faculty are hired and promoted on the quality of their teaching and community service. Classes are intimate, with much discussion and interaction. After classes end, most students are engaged in campus life as participants in the arts, in athletics or leaders in various interest groups. Oxford's student body is rich in cultural, ethnic and religious diversity, making cross-cultural friendships and learning opportunities standard fare. And, as Oxford students complete the two-year course of study and continue to the Atlanta campus, they join a top ranked, internationally respected research university. Students who begin at Oxford typically graduate with two Emory degrees.

Throughout Oxford's (and old Emory's) history, several institutional values shine out clearly. Students from the 1840's, the 1940's or from 2003 have seen the Oxford campus as a place of academic challenge coupled with genuine interest and support for the individual. Oxford students are involved in their community and quickly develop pride and unity. William Faulkner wrote, "the past is not dead . . . it's not even past."

Oxford College offers a unique opportunity to prospective student athletes looking for excellence and individual attention both in the classroom and in athletics. Oxford College and Emory College have a unique system that allows for separate athletic departments and identities within the same university. As a senior in high-school, you can apply to attend the first two years of your Emory University Education at Oxford College and/or at Emory College.
