COLLEGE of southern idaho

 

The College of Southern Idaho is a comprehensive junior college that provides educational, cultural and social opportunities for a diverse population of South Central Idaho. the college encourages students to lead enriched, productive and responsible lives.

 

The 1st academic classes were held in the evening at Twin Falls High School, while vocational classes were first held at the Kimberly Road facility. The administrative offices were housed in the old hospital annex building. The Institution was governed by a Board of Trustees that hired Dr. James L. Taylor as the 1st President of the College of Southern Idaho. He served as President until his death in November of 1982. Gerald R. Meyerhoeffer, former Vice President, became President in 1983.

The College of Southern Idaho is one of the fastest growing colleges in the state, having doubled its enrollment during the past 8 years. Off-Campus centers at Micron in Boise and in Burley, Gooding, Jerome, and Hailey serve approximately two thousand five hundred students every semester. The advent of the telecommunications system in 1989 greatly improved the delivery of college-level courses to these areas. The College of Southern Idaho offers a variety of educational opportunities to the people of South Central Idaho. 85 percent of the student body comes from the 8 Magic Valley counties in the school's service area.

The athletics program at southern Idaho has a rich history and tradition and is well supported by the local community. Like the rich history of its 6 sports programs, championships are a tradition. The Golden Eagles have won sixteen national championships, Seventy five region championships and have arguably the most successful overall athletic program in the National Junior College Athletic Association and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.

The school's intercollegiate athletic program competes at the Division III level of the National Junior College Athletic Association . This membership permits Briarwood College to participate in the New England Region (Region XXI), which includes many other 2 year institutions.

Brookdale Community College  was founded in 1967. Equal opportunity for everyone is a mandate of the school; Brookdale does not discriminate against anyone on any basis, either in education or in employment practices.

 The United States has won all Olympic gold medal opportunities in women's tennis during the last three Olympic Games. Since 1988, the United States has won all gold medal opportunities in women's tennis with the exception of one.

Arizona Western, because of the college's emphasis on community service and performance-based activities, is generating foundation support and access to external financial sources to provide improved facilities, scholarships and learning improvements. Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University share common campus and delivery sites in a cost-effective manner to provide "seamless" associate-through-graduate degree programs.
